Job Description:
Summary:
- Progressive care nursing jobs involve care for patients
requiring close monitoring and frequent assessment, but who aren t
unstable enough to need ICU care.
- PCU nurses monitor cardiac and other critical vital signs and
detect any changes, thereby enabling intervention of
life-threatening or emergency situations.
- Reports to the Unit Supervisor.Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provides nursing care to critically ill patients diagnosed with
Heart attack, defibrillator or pacemaker implant or other cardiac
condition.
- Stroke.
- Proficient in performing and interpreting EKG. Able to
recognize Lethal Dysrhythmias . Proficient team member in Cardiac
Code.
- Monitor cardiac and other critical vital signs and detect any
changes, thereby enabling intervention of life-threatening or
emergency situations. Initiates and revises the patient s plan of
care based on continuing assessments.
- Includes patient teaching and discharge planning in overall
plan of care.
- Incorporates clinical and technical aspects of care with
nursing actions and interventions in accordance with established
policies, standards and procedures.
- Documents nursing interventions and patient response according
to hospital policy.
- Evaluates effectiveness of nursing interventions and methods of
implementation. Practices within the limits of the state s Nurse
Practice Act and health care facility and nursing administrative
policies.
- Supervises ancillary personnel in their performance of assigned
job-related duties.
- Ensures patient confidentiality and the rights of the
patient.
- Maintains and updates skills needed for excellence in patient
care.
- Administer complex Cardiac Medications including titration
based on the patient s vital signs.Education & Experience
Requirements:
- Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing, with current
licensure in good standing.
- Minimum of One year of current hospital experience in PCU
Specialty.
