This position's work location is fully remote; however, the
selected candidate may only work remotely from a New England state
(ME, VT, NH, MA, CT, RI).The Department of Cancer Biology is
seeking a Senior Research Administrator - Finance. The Dana-Farber
Cancer Institute (DFCI) is committed to providing outstanding
departmental management to DFCI faculty engaged in research.The
purpose of the Sr. Research Administrator - Finance (RA-Finance)
position is to provide support to faculty preparing grant budgets
and managing finances of the faculty's portfolios after the award.
Finance responsibilities include managing accounts associated with
grants, gifts, industry-sponsored research agreements, strategic
centers, and other types of funding. This position provides
financial information, guidance, analysis, and support to faculty.
In addition to the grant management responsibilities described, the
position may include special projects either within the department
or across departments, supervising junior staff, training, and
mentoring.Located in Boston and the surrounding communities,

- Develops budgets and budget justifications for award
proposals.
- Upon award, finalizes the budget and works with Grants &
Contracts and Research Finance offices to get the award set up
properly in a timely manner.
- Reviews Notice of Award for any budgetary or other
restrictions/requirements. Works with faculty to assure
understanding of reporting and other requirements of PI.
- Reviews budget adjustments, restrictions, required responses
with faculty and ensures a timely response to the sponsor.
- Manages budget spending to guidelines, monitoring and reviewing
allocation of research funds, grant balances, and charges, ensuring
appropriate use of funds under investigator control, both in terms
of sponsor/external regulations and Institute policy.
- Reviews for approval and correct allocations all expenses from
their assigned labs and all hiring/promotions. This also includes
but is not limited to supplies, equipment, salaries, travel,
etc.
- Compiles and analyzes fiscal data; develops updates,
disseminates accurate and complete financial information to ensure
compliance with all requirements of externally funded programs,
performs related duties as assigned. Establishes monthly meetings
with the head of each laboratory (Independent Investigator) to
review their current fiscal report, in the form of a projection
that extends 18 to 24 months. This allows planning, awareness of
when grants need to be renewed or new applications will be
necessary.
- Provide coverage for others on the RA-Finance team when they
are ill, on leave, or vacation.Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent experience
- 5 years of relevant work experience
- Research financial management experience is strongly preferred.
This includes but is not limited to:
- Understanding sponsor guidelines and helping investigators
adhere to them when developing budgets for any applications or
establishment of a new fund.

- Financial projections
- Maintains professional demeanor at all times.
- Attention to detail.
- Ability to work within a team environment.
- Excellent organizational and project management skills.
- Must have excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
and be able to work with a wide variety of faculty and staff.
- General computer skills include working with MS Word, MS Excel,
and MS Outlook. PeopleSoft or Workday experience is a plus.
- Ability to proactively set priorities and multi-task.
- Meets high service excellence standards.
- Flexibility is required; nights and weekend work may be
necessary to meet deadlines or complete time-sensitive
